Snack Sunday: Annie Chun’s Seaweed Crisps Gochujang flavored

Today is the perfect day for a picnic.  Since the weather is cooler, I decided to take some time “me” time and enjoy a quick getaway at my local park.  It’s one of the best places to enjoy some peace and quiet with a gorgeous view of nature.  For today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Annie Chun’s Seaweed Crisps Gochujang flavored.  I thought a nice sweet and spicy snack with my pumpkin spice latte would be perfect snack for this fall type weather.

When I got to the park, I found a nice big tree, laid out my blanket, sat down and opened my snack.  Normally, I would read a few chapters of a book first, but I didn’t want my hot drink to get too cool.  What I love most about seaweed crisps is the nice crunchy crisp bite and this snack did not disappoint me.  From the start, it had the texture and crunch that is associated with seaweed crisps.  The gochujang flavor is on point.  The snack starts off sweet but you can feel a bit of heat after a few seconds.  I don’t think this snack is too spicy, but I have a high tolerance.  So, if you can’t handle the heat, I would stay away from this snack.  But I would recommend this snack even if you had a low tolerance.  Only because it has a nice bold and sweet flavored.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would.  I love seaweed crisp and I don’t think there’s a flavor I don’t like.  It’s a great low-calorie snack with a crisp texture with sweet and spicy flavor.  It’s everything I love.  Now, if they made this bag resealable or maybe a bit smaller.  This would be one of my go to snacks.

TAEYANG: WHITE NIGHT in Los Angeles – Recap

TAEYANG was amazing during the concert, song after song, high energy. The vocals were on point especially during  ONLY LOOK AT ME  and DARLING.

On stage Taeyang dominates because he is as charismatic as he is sincere. He took the time to thank the fans whom he’s noticed who had been with him to multiple stops. He even took the time to acknowledge that things had not gone as smoothly at other venues and he apologized for that.

The highlight of the night came when TAEYANG brought out a special guest onto the stage, Ysabelle Cuevas. She has posted an English cover of WAKE ME UP on YouTube a few weeks ago, that TAEYANG had reposted in his Instagram account. After her performance, she revealed that she only started posting cover songs on YouTube three years ago. Much to the audience’s delight Taeyang told Cuevas, “You will get a lot of fans after tonight and I want to tell you that I’m already your fan.”

It was a lovely way to end U.S.A. leg of his “WHITE NIGHT” world tour before wrapping up his North American tour in Vancouver before continuing on to his Asia stops.

The venue staff handled separating the different lines professionally even though it was very hot outside and people were very emotional. Once everyone got inside for the soundcheck, everyone perked up again once they heard SUPERSTAR start to play and TAEYANG came out.

TAEYANG was amazing during the concert, song after song, he had so much energy. He sang live the entire time, even played the piano and showed off his dance moves. The background visuals were impressive, highlighting and adding a depth to TAEYANG’s performances like a storybook. During ONLY LOOK AT ME, he accidentally flipped the microphone into his mouth and hurting himself, causing the song to be cut short. He came back for WEDDING DRESS, unfortunately his mouth bleeding again, he finished the song and went off the stage for a bit. TAEYANG came back after a little bit to finish the concert on a happy note.

The highlights of the concert were when TAEYANG used a fan’s handmade daisy spinner and his interaction with the fans. He even put the WARRIOR shirt on and performed with it on! The encore was fantastic. He sang EYES, NOSE, LIPS as one of his last songs and the crowd sang the lyrics along with him. During the send-off event, TAEYANG was very patient and considerate  with his fan. He took the time to interact with everyone who wanted to by taking a selfies, talking with them, even the occasional hugs and high five were given.

The WHITE NIGHT tour was definitely a 5/5 in my book!

TAEYANG: WHITE NIGHT in ATLANTA – Review & Recap

South Korean star TAEYANG from BIGBANG performed at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia last Wednesday night. The last time Taeyang performed by himself in North America was when he headlined for the MTV Music Experiment 2.0 concert on November 26, 2013 in San Francisco. The Music Experiment 2.0 was a themed, social-media powered music series where tickets are awarded to fans through social media contests.

Taeyang’s debut solo release, Solar, occupied the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the Canadian and US iTunes R&B/Soul album chart which was a first for an Asian artist. In 2014 his second solo album, Rise, hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s World Albums in its first week. Among kpop solo albums, Rise currently still holds the record for highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 when it hit No. 112 in June 2014. Taeyang’s latest album, White Night, debuts at No. 1 on Billboard‘s World Albums chart marking it his second consecutive release to do so.

Dreamkatchers Initiative | TAEYANG: WHITE NIGHT in ATLANTA – Review & Recap

He burst onto the stage dressed all in white with White Night. It was the start of a high-energy set that showed off his vocal prowess and a stage presence that simply dominated.

On stage Taeyang is simply captivating, exudes confidence and charisma but at the same time sincerity. He took the time to have conversations with audience members who shouted questions and song requests at him. He was genuinely amused as he scolded the audience when they kept guessing wrong as to which song he was going to sing next. The audience loved the interactions.

He never let up, working the audience and the stage with his hip-hop style dance moves on fast paced songs such as Ringa Linga and Love You to Death, and getting the audience to sing most of I Need a Girl for him. Backed by a four-piece band, whom he introduced during the encore, he hit the high notes wonderfully on songs such as Darling and Amazin’. He even played the keyboard for the Last Dance.

During the encore, he added a few BigBang tracks such as Bang Bang Bang and Fantastic Baby – certainly a sweet treat for the fans.Dreamkatchers Initiative | TAEYANG: WHITE NIGHT in ATLANTA – Review & RecapDreamkatchers Initiative | TAEYANG: WHITE NIGHT in ATLANTA – Review & RecapDreamkatchers Initiative | TAEYANG: WHITE NIGHT in ATLANTA – Review & RecapSave

Snack Sunday: Nongshim Jjol Byeong Snack

Snack Sunday: Nongshim Jjol Byeong Snack

On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Nongshim Jjol Byeong snack.  It’s been a crazy week and this weekend was jam packed with family, work and life events.  I needed something small and easy to carry around to munch on.  Since I was short on time, I randomly grabbed the smallest snack bag I could find and tossed it into my tote bag.

When I finally had the chance to take a moment to eat, I quickly opened the bag and took my first bite.  It has a BBQ seasoning flavor and a medium crunch.  It’s not as crunchy as I thought it would be, like the other dried ramen snacks.  But that’s because I like my ramen snacks crunchy.  After a few chews, the once solid circular snack turns into a powdery grainy texture, which really surprised me.  But nothing surprised me more than the strong BBQ seasoning aftertaste it left behind.

Would I buy this again?

No, I would not.  I did not like when the snack crumbled into a mushy grainy texture after a few chews and that aftertaste left me queasy.  It’s days like this I’m glad I have an extra toothbrush and toothpaste in my bag because the aftertaste was just unpleasant.

beautiFRIDAY: PUREDERM Hydro Soothing Cucumber Pads

Last week, I briefly went over what KCON had to offer for Korean Skincare and Make Up.  This week I wanted to share with you an item that helped with my puffy eyes.  On this week’s BeautiFriday Adventure, I wanted to give a BIG thank you to Adwin Korea Corp for bringing PUREDERM Hydro Soothing Cucumber Pads to the convention.

They were at last year’s KCON, and I loved their super affordable products, that produce amazing results.  I bought these pads for $1 and I really wished I bought more.  On day 2 of KCON, I woke up, and my eye bags were no joke.  There are simple ways of fixing this problem, but I was not home with my arsenal of goodies to make these eye bags disappear.  Luckily, I bought these Hyrdro Soothing Cucumber Pads, and they worked like a charm.  These pads smelled like fresh cucumber.  It was refreshing to close my eyes for 15 minutes, smell the beautifully scented product and of course listen to my KCON playlist.  After 15 minutes, I removed the product and was amazed on how quick my eye bags disappeared.  I knew that I had to go back and get some more.  But I was not the only one who discovered this amazing product.  Because when I came back to their booth, they were sold out.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, a million times yes.  Besides working like a charm, this product is resealable!  It’s convenient, affordable and it works!  I just wish I bought more, but luckily one pack holds 10 sheets.  That should tie me over until my shipment comes in.

Want to know more about this booth, stay tune.  I did a quick interview with the representative at the booth and I will update you all with all the goodies I bought from them.

Snack Sunday: LOTTE Ice Yogurt

Before we start our Snack Sunday adventure together, I wanted to say thank you to Dee for writing an amazing article on HAITAI Roly Poly Green Tea Latte.    I love those types of snacks, especially with coffee.

Now, I don’t know about you but where I am from, there is a major heat wave going on.  I am doing everything I can to stay cool and hydrated.  On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out LOTTE Ice Yogurt.  I have seen many actors and idols cooling themselves off with this yummy treat and I was super excited when I found some at my local market.   By the time I checked out of the store and walked to my car, the frozen treat already turned into a slushie.

The Ice Yogurt has a tart taste but it’s not too sour.  You can tell they added a bit of sweetener to the yogurt, which I appreciated.  When I normally eat yogurt, I always add a little honey or fruit to suit my taste buds.  This icy treat is very similar to LOTTE yogurt drink but it does have a lighter taste.  But it’s pretty close to the original.

Would I buy this again?

Maybe.  Don’t get me wrong, I do love the flavor and the texture of the snack.  But if I eat this snack often, my face would break out.  Milk and I have a love and hate relationship.  If I didn’t have that issue, I would be more inclined to buy this product.  I would love the icy treat to be more sweeter, but if I’m on the go, this snack is perfect and only 125 calories.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Food Segment

Written by Ji | 02 September

KCON LA is one of my favorite events to attend every year.  Since the event is so close by, I buy tickets yearly, no matter what groups will attend.  But I am never disappointed by the artist line up and this year was lit. Besides the awesome concert, one of my favorite things to do at KCON is check out all the food booths inside and outside the venue.  Sadly, this year, I couldn’t fully explore the convention floor but I was able to snag a few treats along the way.

When I arrived to KCON, I was slightly hungry and headed towards the two booths who are known to have delicious snacks.  TOUS les JOURS is one of my favorite bakeries, so I knew before I even arrived at the convention floor, that this would be one of my first stops.  I was not disappointed to see the vast amount of goodies they had to offer.  They had different types of breads, marbled caked and even had apple pie.  The best part is they aren’t stingy.  And I don’t have to dance, spin a wheel, take a picture or do anything silly for the yummy treat.  You basically just go to the pastry area, and politely take a snack or two.

If you wanted something warm to eat, Bibigo was right next to them.  They served up kimchi, dumplings and had a variety of sauces for you to try.   Since I arrived late, I wasn’t able to see if they changed their snacks up or if they just served the same dish throughout the event.  Either way, a warm yummy snack always makes my heart and tummy very happy.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Food Segment

I really wished I had more time to visit Lotte and Snack Fever booths, but time was not on my side.  Next year, I will be more cautious about my schedule, and make sure this is the only event I will attend.  Because every year KCON convention gets bigger and better.  There is always much to see and experience.  Even if you can’t get tickets to the event, the convention is worth a visit.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

Written by Ji | 01 September

KCON!!!  When I finally arrived to KCON, I quickly glanced and took pictures at every booth there.  My time at the convention was short but I’m pretty proud of what I accomplished.  According to my bank statements, I had a glorious spending spree at KCON.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

I know what you’re thinking.  That does not look like a shopping spree.  And for those that did go to KCON, will notice a few things that were given out for free.  I actually bought a lot of the same product.  Like I bought 10 of those cucumber eye patch but to fit all of them in one picture would be difficult.  And if you are wondering why I bought 10 of those, my review on the product will be up within a month.  But you can probably guess why I bought 10.

To simplify things, for this article, I’m going briefly go over some booths.  But honestly, for the rest of this year.  The theme is most likely going to be KCON.  For today’s article, I’m going to go talk about several booths that drew in a crowd at KCON.  KCON convention was divided into different zones.  I will start with the CJ Cultureplex zone.

SEP beauty is Korea’s number 1 sustainable make up brand that will launch on Nordstrom.com this fall.  At least that’s what the host has ingrained into my head while checking out their lipstick and nail polish line.   This booth was one of the best beauty booths at KCON.  The host were funny, got their point across and had a ton of testers out to try out their products.  They even gave out free nail polish with a nail filer.  I won’t give out all the details, but I am in love with the peel off nail polish.  Curious?  You should be.  They had a great market strategy at the event that bought in a mass of people who were curious about their products.

The next booth is Olive Young.  If you missed this booth, you totally missed out.  They were giving out so many types of samples, I just wanted to camp there (in the short time I was at the convention) and take all their goodies.  They gave out nail stickies if you posted a picture of the “one nail” you got done.  I thought that was hilarious.  But in order to save time, they only did one nail (of your choosing) and then they gave you a set of stickies to complete your look.  I have never been a fan on nail stickers, but these were not only super cute but they lasted a lot longer than I thought they would.  They also gave out a tons of different face mask, depending on which brand you posted on your social media.  My favorite part was picking a key and unlocking some goodies.  They had moisturizers, audience passes, face mask, and other skin care products.  I was a little greedy and tried for the passes but failed to win.  But they gave me more face masks just for trying.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

The next zone I will discuss is the Sponsor Zone.  In this zone, there was only one beauty booth.  But this booth constantly had a line.  But that line was completely worth it.  I believe there were 4-6 different ways to collect skin care goodies from them.   In that tiny booth, you could sign up for info, take picture with Lee Min Ho poster board or on their bench or backdrop.  They had a claw game I really wanted to try, but that line was always so long.  Out of all the booths, I felt rushed trying to get to each station to do my task.  But honestly, if I had more time, I would have done it again.  Because Innisfree has amazing products.

The next zone is the Korea Zone.  I will save this section for beautiFRIDAY, as this is the area that pretty much took all of my money.  But there is one booth I would like to mention.  Only because they didn’t sell any products, but if you posted on Instagram a picture of their product, they gave you a full-size product of your choice.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

I was allowed to do this twice and received a contour compact and a lipstick.

The last and final zone is the Beauty Block!!! Like the previous year, this area is made to sample and test out new products.  I am really happy with the way KCON had the booths arranged this year.  This area was more open than the previous year, making it easier to check out what each booth had to offer.  Like with the other zones, I will briefly pick out a couple of booths and on beautFRIDAYs, I will go over each booth in more detail.  It was really hard to pick out only a few booths because this area was amazing.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

I got my nails done at imPress booth, got my eyelashes done at the KISS both, and picked up some amazing products from all the other Beauty Block booths.  The imPress Booth had a good selection of press on nails you can try.  They even did your nails for you.  And it comes with 30 nails, so that means you got to take home the left overs.  I have tried press on nails before, and they don’t really last.  These ones lasted much longer and I was impressed with the quality and look of the product.  If I was pressed on time, and wanted my nails to look gorgeous.  I would use this product.  To top it off, I went to the MOYOU nail booth, and added more emblisments with their stencils.  They have an impressive selection that added a little flair to my already beautiful nails.  Next, I visited the KISS booth.  I love KISS eyelashes.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

I use them frequently.  They are easily accessible at my local stores, and their cost is very affordable.  Having them done by a professional was definitely a highlight.  I had so much fun picking out the perfect eyelashes for the concert.

And I wanted to give a shout out to My Beauty Diary booth, they had a great selection of beauty mask. Which by the way, if you spent $20, you got a free cute storage box.  I got two.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

Another booth I wanted to mention was Feather and Bone.  They are not a Korean brand, but her little booth was super cute.  I have yet to try the product out, but her skin looked amazing.  So of course, I had to buy it.

I really wish I could have spent more time at each both and really get a feel for what each one had to offer and what makes them stand out.  Hopefully next year I will be able to spend more time and money buying all things related to Korean skincare.
