beautiFRIDAY: A:CONCEPT Lipstick (Rose Brown)

Written by Ji | 17 November 2017

beautiFRIDAY: A:CONCEPT Lipstick

On the last BeautiFriday article, I reviewed A:CONCEPT Shape of My Face Triple Contour and loved how well the product blended.  Check out the review HERE.  I try to remain unbiased when I try out new products, but I’ve been loving their contour compact, so I had high hopes when I tried out this lipstick.

The lipstick is lightly scented and had a nice medium pigmentation.  Sadly, on my lips the color was not a rose brown, but more of a coral.  Which is not bad and perfect for the spring and summer, but I was hoping for a rose brown color.  But if you check out the website it does state that the color is between a rose and coral.  When buying a product, it’s always good to read the print.  I for one, did not. My fault.

I drink a lot of water throughout the day, so the product didn’t last as long as I hoped.  Within 2 hours, it was already fading, and I needed to touch up quite frequently.  But I did learn a few things from the touch up.  The product is great as a base, it’s easy to blend and if you set it, it will last much longer. Lastly, I wanted to make a note about the packaging.  I loved the bottom half (even though it felt very light.  I would have loved a heavier case.), but the top, the transparent plastic part (at least for me), ruin the aesthetic.   It made it look cheap. If they could change a few things about this packaging, I would be more incline to buy.

Would I buy this again?

Maybe.  I know the article seemed negative, but in all honesty, it’s an affordable lipstick with a nice smooth finish that produced a decent color on my lips.  I would love to try out the other colors as well, to try to find my color.  When choosing a lipstick, I normally buy it because of the color and quality of the product.  While I did like the color of the lipstick, I did not like the plastic top.  It shouldn’t bother me, and I should give the product another go, but the plastic top really doesn’t help sell this product (at least to me).  But you never know, maybe when I finish this product, I may end up buying another.  If I do, I will let you know.

Snack Sunday: LOTTE Pepero Choco Cookie

It’s that time of year again, where you gift Pepero to your friends and love ones.  Pepero Day (November 11) is similar to Valentines Days, where in South Korea they exchange these delicious snacks to show their affection to the people they care for.  This year, I decided to try out Lotte Pepero in Choco Cookie flavor.

I bought this box because it “looked” fancier than the other box, and I thought since it’s a special day, I might as well get the fancier looking box.  I already had an idea what Pepero sticks taste like, as it’s one of my favorite snacks.  Although I really try to limit myself because they are addicting.  Pepero Choco Cookie is a stick biscuit covered in chocolate and has bits of chocolate cookie added on top.  I love this combination.  This snack has a nice crunchy texture from the chocolate cookie, which also makes this type of Pepero sweeter than the other flavors.  I probably ate about half the bag before the snack became overly sweet to me.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would.   This would be the perfect snack to share with your friends and love ones to express how much you care for them.  It’s sweet, tasty, and affordable.  Perfect for anyone on any budget.

BewhY: First US Tour ‘The Blind Star’ in Los Angeles – Review

by Dennis & Dee

South Korean Hip Hop star BewhY  kicked off his First US Tour ‘The Blind Star’ at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday, November 1st.

In 2015, BewhY was the winner of Korea’s top rap survival show, Show Me the Money 5,  and quickly became one of the hottest and most in-demand hip-hop stars to make a splash on the Korean hip hop world. This independent rapper has been associated with various hip hop acts such as CJAMM, Simon D & Gray, and has become even more well know due to his collaborations with G-Dragon and CL.  The last time BewhY performed in North America was at KTOWN Night market and SMTM5 Concert in Los Angeles, CA.

On his first stop of The Blind Star tour in LA, he burst onto the stage dressed in a blazer, leather pants and his favorite Balenciaga shoes. His first couple songs (Red Carpet, Bichael Yackson, 9ucci Bank) showed off his fast rapping skills and his charismatic stage presence. On stage, BewhY spoke Korean to the audience in a thankful manner tone and revealed more about how important of his first album and his fans are to him. He took the time after every couple songs talking to the audience and show off his witty humor.

At one point, he politely asked the audience to put the cameras during his talking sets so he can connect with them on a more personal level. The audience respected his wishes and BewhY continued to hype the audience with his close interactions and energetic moves.  In between the sets, a special guest named Justin Park  performed 3 songs and showcased his fancy dance moves and smooth vocals.

Personally, one of the highlight performance to see in this concert was Forever. Although there was some technical difficulties during some of the songs transitions as well as a few microphone problems, BewhY handled them very professionally.  He also performed a couple songs from his mixtapes such as Time Goes On, In Trinity and brought back a SMTM5 song Who You?

BewhY graced his fans with a long encore of 5 songs, which he ended with two songs from SMTM5, Who You?, and Day Day – a big treat for the SMTM fans.

BewhY and his First US Tour ‘The Blind Star’ will move throughout six US cities before wrapping at New York’s Stage 48 on November 12th.

beautiFRIDAY: A:CONCEPT Shape of My Face Triple Contour

Written by Ji | 03 November 2017

A:CONCEPT is a relatively new company in Korea that was established in 2013.  They are a company I know very little of and don’t see much of in my local stores.  With little research, I was able to find out more information on the company and where to buy these products.  I first heard about A:CONCEPT at KCON (LA).  They handed out full size products for following their social media page and for posting a picture.  I don’t know about you, but for a full-size product I would have done more.

I like the packaging.  It’s black, light weight and simple.  For me, I like simple packaging because I don’t need it to have unnecessary embellishments that make the compact heavier or oddly shaped where it’s difficult to fit the product into my makeup bag.

I was happy with the pigmentation of the compact.  I find it easier to contour when the pigmentation isn’t too strong or sheer.  This is a good medium coloration that is easy to blend.  Not only can I use this compact for contouring, I used it for my eyebrows and for eyeshadow.  With this type of versatility, this product is a winner.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would.  It’s a great to go compact, perfect to bring to work for touch ups or on vacation.  You can pretty much use it on your eyes, face and eyebrows.  Now if this compact had an extra compartment for a mini brush, gold glitter (for a little pop of color for the eyes) and a lighter highlighter, my makeup life would be so much easier.  Well, at least in theory.

Have you tried A:CONCEPT Shape of my Face Contour?  What were your thoughts on it?

Snack Sunday: ROYCE Nama Chocolate

On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Royce Chocolate.   I know Royce Chocolate is a product of Japan, but I had to try out this chocolate because I am re-watching the drama “Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon”.   Here are a couple of pictures of the cute couple “shopping” for Royce Chocolate.  For those who have not seen the drama, I recommend you do so.  There are also no spoilers in this article.  I just wanted to share with you an adorable scene from the drama.

Snack Sunday: ROYCE Nama ChocolateSnack Sunday: ROYCE Nama ChocolateThis chocolate is rich and velvety.  It has a nice powdered cocoa layer on top, but the inside had a nice smooth and creamy consistency.  I love the texture and taste of this product.  It’s a perfect snack to enjoy with either wine, coffee or tea.  I also wanted to add how much I loved the packaging.  Since it’s still hot here, they put my chocolate in a cooling bag with a frozen gel packet.  It kept my chocolate from melting on this blistering fall day.  And lastly, I love the little utensil it came with.  My hands stayed clean while I indulged in the delectable treat.

Would I buy this again?

Yes!  I would love to buy this product again but for $18 a box, it will have to be for special moments.  Like celebrating the weekend or maybe pay day.   I would recommend this chocolate to anyone since it’s not overwhelming sweet but sweet enough for those who have a sweet tooth.  It’s the perfect medium for any chocolate lover.

Snack Sunday: Paldo Aloe Mango

Written by Ji | 22 October 2017

On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Paldo Aloe Mango.  It’s another busy weekend, filled with family events and a couple of social events.  Food will be provided at all events, so I just needed a refreshing drink to quench my thirst from one event to the next.  The weather has been in the 80s recently and I remembered that during the summer I tried an Aloe drink that hit the spot during the scorching summer weather.  But I also remembered it had a weird aftertaste, so when I went to my local market, I picked up a drink that was similar to Haioreum Aloe Vera Mango.  (Click the link to check out my review HERE ).

I did a quick glance at the plastic container to see if there would be any pulp/aloe vera bits in the drink.  After a quick shake, I could see that this product is loaded with pulp.  I twisted off the cap, and smelt the sweet smell of mango.  It’s a pretty sweet smell for a drink, but I love the scent.  Paldo Aloe Mango is a sweet refreshing drink that definitely hits the spot.  It does have a similar aftertaste, similar to Haioreum Aloe Vera Mango, but it was lighter.  It’s also less sweet.  But when I say less sweet, it doesn’t mean this drink is not filled with sugar.  If you are sensitive to overly sweet drinks, this might not be for you.  One serving is enough.  Otherwise you will start to feel that sweetness.

Would I buy this again?

Yes.  I don’t think I could drink this everyday (because of the sweetness), but on occasion, I would.  This drink is sweet, refreshing and perfect for a warm day.

beautiFRIDAY: BOTANIC HEAL BOH 360 Lifting Solution

On this week’s BeautiFRIDAY, I tried out Botanic Heal BOH 360 Lifting Solution.  My weekend is booked with 2 family events and 1 social event.  So of course, I had to up my skin care game to make sure my skin looked flawless and healthy.

Before I even opened the package, I knew this was going to be a thick sheet mask.  I could feel the thickness of the sheet through the packaging.  When I opened the package, there was a nice light floral aroma.  The face mask was indeed thicker than most face mask and I loved it.  I feel like thicker mask tend to hold the serum better, its less messy, and you don’t feel like you’re going to rip it.  One of the best attributes about this mask is that it has ear holes and its covers your neck as well.  Normally, I would use the extra serum and apply it on my neck.  With this mask, I don’t need too and can use the extra serum else where.

After 20 minutes, I took off the face mask and examine my face.  I don’t think I have ever tried a face mask where you didn’t have that “face mask glow” after.  But I can honestly say, that for most of the day, my skin felt great and even more importantly it does every the package said it would do.

Would I buy this again?

Yes.  I have to rethink my face mask game and try to incorporate this mask to my skin care regime because this mask exceeded my expectations.  From the thickness and design of the sheet, to how much product they packed into the mask.  This face mask is now a contender to be one of my favorite go to mask.

Snack Sunday: Lotte Milkis Original

Snack Sunday: Lotte Milkis Original

On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Lotte Milkis.  I have seen these drinks at every Asian store in my neighborhood.  But for some reason, it just never called to me.  It’s over 80 degrees here and I felt the need for a nice cool refreshing drink.  I didn’t have much time to check out the refrigerated drink section, so I just randomly picked up a drink and headed to my class.

I was absolutely shocked by this drink.  You would think I would have known this was a creamy carbonated beverage (judging by the name and picture on the can) but when opened the beverage and took a sip, I was in shock.  I felt like I was drinking one of those yogurt drinks.  Which isn’t bad and it was refreshing but boy was I surprised.  It had that same sour aftertaste but the consistency of this drink was smoother.  After I finished the can, I did feel like the drink was sweeter than the yogurt.  But I only felt that way after I finished the creamy drink.

Would I buy this again?

Unsure.  While the taste is similar to the yogurt drink, it does have a smoother consistency.   I think I will go back and try the other flavors that they offer to see if I will change my mind.  After all, this drink is pretty popular.  Maybe original is just not my flavor.

Snack Sunday: HMART Rice Cake

Snack Sunday: HMART Rice Cake

On this week’s Snack Sunday adventure, I wanted to do a special snack for Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving).  Since I’ve been sick with the flu for the past few days, I was not able to cook anything.  So, I sent my sister to the store to find me Songpyeon (rice cake steamed in pine needles).  Of course, I wasn’t expecting much since it was a last-minute trip but I had high hopes she would come back with some sort of rice cake (and not spicy rice cake).  When she came back, she tossed a bag at me while she happily walked away eating tteokbokki.  I had a feeling she would come home with that snack.

As I opened the bag, I was pleasantly surprised to see that she succeeded and found fresh rice cakes.  I am very fortunate that my store sells a variety of fresh products and for my sister for running this errand for me.  However, there was no brand on the carton, but I looked up HMart and this was the picture they had on their website.  I would have taken one from my phone, but with this fever, I don’t think I could a focused picture.

I randomly took one of the rice cakes and took a bite.  It had the familiar taste and texture of all rice cakes.  It was soft, chewy and tasted a little nutty.  The bean flavor was strong, but that was to be expected.  For a store-bought item, I was impressed.  It had that homemade feel and traditional taste.

Would I buy this again?

Yes.  I would love to buy this again when I feel better.  My taste buds are a bit iffy from being sick, but if I could taste the flavor of the rice cake while being sick.  This is definitely something I would like to try again.
