beautiFRIDAY: PUREDERM Hydro Soothing Cucumber Pads

Last week, I briefly went over what KCON had to offer for Korean Skincare and Make Up.  This week I wanted to share with you an item that helped with my puffy eyes.  On this week’s BeautiFriday Adventure, I wanted to give a BIG thank you to Adwin Korea Corp for bringing PUREDERM Hydro Soothing Cucumber Pads to the convention.

They were at last year’s KCON, and I loved their super affordable products, that produce amazing results.  I bought these pads for $1 and I really wished I bought more.  On day 2 of KCON, I woke up, and my eye bags were no joke.  There are simple ways of fixing this problem, but I was not home with my arsenal of goodies to make these eye bags disappear.  Luckily, I bought these Hyrdro Soothing Cucumber Pads, and they worked like a charm.  These pads smelled like fresh cucumber.  It was refreshing to close my eyes for 15 minutes, smell the beautifully scented product and of course listen to my KCON playlist.  After 15 minutes, I removed the product and was amazed on how quick my eye bags disappeared.  I knew that I had to go back and get some more.  But I was not the only one who discovered this amazing product.  Because when I came back to their booth, they were sold out.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, a million times yes.  Besides working like a charm, this product is resealable!  It’s convenient, affordable and it works!  I just wish I bought more, but luckily one pack holds 10 sheets.  That should tie me over until my shipment comes in.

Want to know more about this booth, stay tune.  I did a quick interview with the representative at the booth and I will update you all with all the goodies I bought from them.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

Written by Ji | 01 September

KCON!!!  When I finally arrived to KCON, I quickly glanced and took pictures at every booth there.  My time at the convention was short but I’m pretty proud of what I accomplished.  According to my bank statements, I had a glorious spending spree at KCON.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

I know what you’re thinking.  That does not look like a shopping spree.  And for those that did go to KCON, will notice a few things that were given out for free.  I actually bought a lot of the same product.  Like I bought 10 of those cucumber eye patch but to fit all of them in one picture would be difficult.  And if you are wondering why I bought 10 of those, my review on the product will be up within a month.  But you can probably guess why I bought 10.

To simplify things, for this article, I’m going briefly go over some booths.  But honestly, for the rest of this year.  The theme is most likely going to be KCON.  For today’s article, I’m going to go talk about several booths that drew in a crowd at KCON.  KCON convention was divided into different zones.  I will start with the CJ Cultureplex zone.

SEP beauty is Korea’s number 1 sustainable make up brand that will launch on Nordstrom.com this fall.  At least that’s what the host has ingrained into my head while checking out their lipstick and nail polish line.   This booth was one of the best beauty booths at KCON.  The host were funny, got their point across and had a ton of testers out to try out their products.  They even gave out free nail polish with a nail filer.  I won’t give out all the details, but I am in love with the peel off nail polish.  Curious?  You should be.  They had a great market strategy at the event that bought in a mass of people who were curious about their products.

The next booth is Olive Young.  If you missed this booth, you totally missed out.  They were giving out so many types of samples, I just wanted to camp there (in the short time I was at the convention) and take all their goodies.  They gave out nail stickies if you posted a picture of the “one nail” you got done.  I thought that was hilarious.  But in order to save time, they only did one nail (of your choosing) and then they gave you a set of stickies to complete your look.  I have never been a fan on nail stickers, but these were not only super cute but they lasted a lot longer than I thought they would.  They also gave out a tons of different face mask, depending on which brand you posted on your social media.  My favorite part was picking a key and unlocking some goodies.  They had moisturizers, audience passes, face mask, and other skin care products.  I was a little greedy and tried for the passes but failed to win.  But they gave me more face masks just for trying.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

The next zone I will discuss is the Sponsor Zone.  In this zone, there was only one beauty booth.  But this booth constantly had a line.  But that line was completely worth it.  I believe there were 4-6 different ways to collect skin care goodies from them.   In that tiny booth, you could sign up for info, take picture with Lee Min Ho poster board or on their bench or backdrop.  They had a claw game I really wanted to try, but that line was always so long.  Out of all the booths, I felt rushed trying to get to each station to do my task.  But honestly, if I had more time, I would have done it again.  Because Innisfree has amazing products.

The next zone is the Korea Zone.  I will save this section for beautiFRIDAY, as this is the area that pretty much took all of my money.  But there is one booth I would like to mention.  Only because they didn’t sell any products, but if you posted on Instagram a picture of their product, they gave you a full-size product of your choice.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

I was allowed to do this twice and received a contour compact and a lipstick.

The last and final zone is the Beauty Block!!! Like the previous year, this area is made to sample and test out new products.  I am really happy with the way KCON had the booths arranged this year.  This area was more open than the previous year, making it easier to check out what each booth had to offer.  Like with the other zones, I will briefly pick out a couple of booths and on beautFRIDAYs, I will go over each booth in more detail.  It was really hard to pick out only a few booths because this area was amazing.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

I got my nails done at imPress booth, got my eyelashes done at the KISS both, and picked up some amazing products from all the other Beauty Block booths.  The imPress Booth had a good selection of press on nails you can try.  They even did your nails for you.  And it comes with 30 nails, so that means you got to take home the left overs.  I have tried press on nails before, and they don’t really last.  These ones lasted much longer and I was impressed with the quality and look of the product.  If I was pressed on time, and wanted my nails to look gorgeous.  I would use this product.  To top it off, I went to the MOYOU nail booth, and added more emblisments with their stencils.  They have an impressive selection that added a little flair to my already beautiful nails.  Next, I visited the KISS booth.  I love KISS eyelashes.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

I use them frequently.  They are easily accessible at my local stores, and their cost is very affordable.  Having them done by a professional was definitely a highlight.  I had so much fun picking out the perfect eyelashes for the concert.

And I wanted to give a shout out to My Beauty Diary booth, they had a great selection of beauty mask. Which by the way, if you spent $20, you got a free cute storage box.  I got two.

Adventure time with DKI: KCON Beauty Segment

Another booth I wanted to mention was Feather and Bone.  They are not a Korean brand, but her little booth was super cute.  I have yet to try the product out, but her skin looked amazing.  So of course, I had to buy it.

I really wish I could have spent more time at each both and really get a feel for what each one had to offer and what makes them stand out.  Hopefully next year I will be able to spend more time and money buying all things related to Korean skincare.

beautiFRIDAY: Secret Nature – Rose Mask

Written by Ji | 11 August 2017

beautiFRIDAY: Secret Nature- Rose Mask

I have finally finished my project and I needed a little R&R before the next one begins.  If I don’t have time to go to the spa, I create my own at home.  I turned on some music, took out a moisturizing mask, and for 20-minutes, I let everything go and just relaxed.  For today’s BeautiFriday adventure, I tried out Secret Nature Rose Moisturizing Mask.

This mask has a beautiful strong rose scent.  The whole entire time I wore this mask, I felt like I was surrounded by roses.  Even though the product was heavily scented, I did not feel overwhelmed by the fragrance.  Instead, I felt as if I was transported to a rose garden.  This mask is perfect for all the flower lovers out there.  Besides the beautiful scent, this product is filled with serum.  As I took out the face mask, the serum started to fall from the mask to my lap.  I quickly examine the mask and applied it to my face.  When I opened the mask pouch to see if there was any leftover serum, I was surprised to see about 1.5 tablespoons of serum leftover.  I applied all that extra serum everywhere.  I felt and smelled like I bathed in rose water.  It felt fabulous.  The next 15 minutes went by quickly, as I enjoyed rose scent and light music.

After wearing the mask for 20 minutes, I dabbed the rest of the mask serum onto my face, neck and arms.  Keep in mind, I already applied all the excess serum all over my body, so I am reapplying to places that that had already had serum on them.  It didn’t take long for the serum to dry and absorbed into my skin.  The rose scent stayed the rest of the day (probably because I soaked myself in the serum) and the face mask glow lasted for the next several hours.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would.  Even if this mask did not have that beautiful rose scent, I would still buy this product.  My face felt a bit sticky after, but with the amount of excess product left over, plus how well it moisturized my face; this mask is a winner.

beautiFRIDAY: TONYMOLY I’m REAL Lotus Mask Sheet

Written by Ji | 28 July 2017

beautiFRIDAY: TONYMOLY I’m REAL Lotus Mask Sheet

Welcome back to the second part of my TONYMOLY face mask review.  On today’s BeautiFriday adventure, I tried out TONYMOLY I’m Real Lotus Mask Sheet.  On the previous article, I wrote about how I loved the scent and thickness of the TONYMOLY face mask.  I am hoping that those two great qualities will carry on to this mask.

After prepping my face for the mask sheet, I tore open the package and was happy to see it had the same thickness as the previous mask sheet but the scent was very light.  During the 20 minutes I had the face mask on, occasionally I would smell a very light floral scent.  But the scent will come and go and would only last for a second or two.   When I first applied the mask, I was concern about the quantity of serum the mask will provide.  Unlike the Green Tea mask, this one is dripping serum.  It was leaking off my chin for the first minute.  I had the keep applying the dripping serum to my neck, so I wouldn’t waste any of the product.  Even though the mask is dripping serum, the mask feels somewhat dry.  I honestly think it’s because of the thickness of the mask and not because the mask itself is dry.

After 20 minutes, I applied all the left-over serum from the mask to my arms, hands, legs and feet.  I am impressed with how much serum this package has.  And the glow it provided to my face wasn’t too bad either.  For brightening or luminating sheets, I don’t expect much.  They moisturize your face but after any face mask, your face will always have that “glow”.  But after an hour of running errands, my bare face (with sunscreen) still had that bright glow.

Will I but this again?

Yes.  I am revising my maybe to a full yes.  If the next few sheets I receive are filled with serum like the Lotus Mask sheet, I will continue to use this brand.  But if they lack serum like the Green Tea one, I will have to pass.  I really do love the thickness and the sturdy feel to these masks.  Most face mask are the same.  With thousands of them out there, a product needs to stand out with their formula.  I can see why this mask is a favorite with so many consumers.  TONYMOLY face mask impressed me with their Green Tea and Lotus face mask serum.  So much so, I ordered more before I even finished writing this article.

beautiFriday: TONYMOLY I’m REAL Green Tea Mask Sheet

Written by Ji | 14 July 2017

On today’s BeautiFriday adventure, I tried out TONYMOLY I’m Real Green Tea Mask Sheet. I love TONYMOLY face mask and when I received this item from my monthly Ipsy subscription I was completely excited. I received two types of TONYMOLY mask sheets from Ipsy and I can’t wait to try them both. Lately, due to the weather, I have been using a face mask every day to keep my face bright and moisturized.

After prepping my face for the face mask, I tore open the package. I love the scent of this mask. It has a nice light green tea scent with hints of a floral fragrance. It is very lightly scented; I barely noticed it while I kept the mask on my face for 30 minutes. This mask is thicker than some of the other mask I have tried. I didn’t have to be too delicate trying to unfold the one-piece mask. It was thick enough where I could easily unfold it. Which is a plus, because I have torn a few mask sheets trying to unfold them. I spent a good few minutes trying to extract every last drop of the product from the packaging, and carefully applied to my arms and hands. Normally, with other brands, I could apply it on my legs and feet as well as my upper body. So that was a little disappointing. Maybe because the mask is thicker, it absorbed more of the product.

After 30 minutes, I squeezed what I could off the mask, and applied what I could to by face and neck. My face felt hydrated, smooth and my complexion also looked healthier. But the mask barely lasted 30 minutes. Around 20 minutes, the mask started to feel a bit dry. But I am not sure if that an issue with the mask or because the 90 degree weather is drying it out.

Would I buy this again?

Maybe. I did love the scent, the thickness and how well it hydrated my face. But with the variety of face mask out there with the similar price, you could get more for your money. I do have another TONYMOLY mask from my Ipsy bag, stay tune for the next BeautiFriday article and see if I change my mind.

beautiFRIDAY: Etude House Tint My Brows Gel

Written by Ji | 30 June 2017

beautiFRIDAY: Etude House Tint My Brows GelOn today’s BeautiFriday adventure, I tried out Etude House Tint My Brows Gel. This product is not new to me and I occasionally use this gel when my eyebrows are shaped and cleaned. If I knew how to draw my eyebrow, I would use this product more but I really don’t know how to shape my brows. A beauty Guru once told me, “Eyebrows are sisters, not twins”. I laughed at that idea because my eyebrows aren’t even second cousins. They are strangers, who one time sat next to each other on the subway. Whenever I get my eyebrows threaded by a new person, they always tell me that I have difficult brows with hair growing in two different directions. I just nod my head and pretend that’s the first time anyone has ever told me that.

So why have I decided to review this product? I recently started watching “Fight my Way” when the eyebrow scene came up, I could not stop laughing.

beautiFRIDAY: Etude House Tint My Brows Gel

And not for the obvious reason. When using this product, you need keep the product on for 2 hours. You can either block off two hours and watch a couple of episodes of your favorite dramas or you can do what the main character did and go about your business. I have done both. I am also the same lady that wears a face mask to Disneyland.

After two hours, you gently remove the harden gel, and the product leaves behind a nice beautiful tint with perfect brows. At least that’s the theory. If you plan to use this product, I have several helpful hints. This product could last (according to their website 2-4 days). I would say 2 days tops, if even two days. But my face is oily and I’m pretty sure, after my 20-30-minute skin regime, the product doesn’t stand a chance. So be careful when washing your face. Stay clear of your eyebrows. I will say, that it does fade nicely and not patchy. Which leads me to the second helpful hint. Color! Make sure you get the right color. The product is dark when you apply it, but when you peel it off, it’s much lighter (just like using henna). As for my last tip, everyone makes mistakes. If you make a mistake, everyone will know and your day will be ruin! But not really. There are many ways to fix it. If you just applied the gel, you can use a q-tip and clean up your brows to your desired shape. However, if you have removed the product and find that your brows are a little wonky you can fix it up with concealer or a highlighter. Or you can make your eyebrows bold with an eyebrow pencil. Either way, this isn’t permanent, so don’t stress. If you really can’t fix it, just remove it with your normal oil and foam cleanser and try again. After all, practice makes perfect.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would. But again, I only use this product when my eyebrows are shaped and clean. When you choose the right color, it leaves behind a natural finish. The tint is a long-lasting product, but depending on your skin type and your skincare regime, it does affect the results. But even if it only last a day or two for me, Etude House Tint My Brows Gel is a product worth trying.

beautiFRIDAY: Skin Food Hydro Fitting Snail Mask Sheet

June gloom is taking no prisoners and wrecking havoc on my beauty routine. My normally oily skin is now feeling and looking dry.  Even with my routine, the strange weather is having a major impact on my face.  I have already changed out my skincare products to suit the warmer weather, but it appears that more work is needed to keep my face bright and fresh.

On today’s BeautiFriday adventure, I tried out Skin Food Hydro Fitting Snail Mask.  This facial mask is one of my favorite mask to use for hydration.  This product is packed with a heavily perfumed serum.  I don’t mind the floral scent too much but if you are sensitive to smells, I would pass on this mask.  The scent does linger.  I normally use a mask towards bedtime.  That way I can finish off my routine after using the mask.  When I wake up in the morning, I could still smell the mask fragrance.  But that could also be because I tend to move a lot at night, so some of the product could have rubbed off on my pillow.  But still, the lingering scent could be problematic to those who are sensitive to scents.  I love the way my skin glows after using this product.  Any signs of dry skin are gone and my face looks much healthier.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would.  This mask is on point for its price range. Your face instantly feels refreshed and hydrated, giving you a dewy look that would have people envious.

beautiFRIDAY: [Too Cool For School] Dinoplatz Dear Brachiosaurus Blotting Paper

beautiFRIDAY: Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Dear Brachiosaurus Blotting Paper

With the beautiful yet harsh warmer temperature approaching, my skin “glow” is now becoming excessive.  Just going to the market, my face looked like I just ran 25 miles through the desert, to buy milk.

I have looked over the archives and could not find an article on this product.  I could have sworn I wrote about this.  How could I not write about a product I use daily? And if for some reason, if I did happen to miss it, please forgive me.  I won’t write this article as a review but more like a helpful tip on how to keep that “glow” in control.

I have mention before, with warmer temperatures, my oily skin and I battle it out.  I am well prepped for the summer weather by changing my primer, using a setting spray, special moisturizer and foundation to help fight excess sebum.  But even with the change of facial products, it is still not enough to keep my face oil free.

On today’s BeautiFriday adventure, I wanted to do a shout out to, [Too Cool For School] Dinoplatz Dear Brachiosaurus Blotting Paper.  No matter what type of blotting paper I use, I always have the same results.  The reason why I love [Too Cool For School] Dinoplatz Dear Brachiosaurus Blotting Paper is because of the their packaging and presentation.  Their packaging is super cute and convenient.  It comes with a mirror, blotting paper, a blotting pad and a cute compact container.  On especially hot days, I would use up to three sheets in one sitting.  If I do need to use that many sheets, my makeup does transfer to the blotting paper.  And if my face is really oily, the blotting pad that holds the blotting paper will lose its stickness and will no longer hold the sheets.  I do not blame the product for these incidents, it’s just one of things that happen when you have oily skin.  But I’m very grateful they give you extra strips so you can keep using the blotting pad as long as possible.  The blotting pad, for me, is not only useful, but also adds a cuteness factor when you are touching up your face in the “powder room”.  I find using the blotting pad, really helps remove my excess sebum more than using my fingers to dab the blotting paper across my face.  While I do like their cute picture, I would also like the option to buy something more suitable for work or something a little bit fancier.  But don’t get me wrong, I love cute concept pictures.  I have stationary and accessories dedicated to my favorites characters.  But sometimes, during certain occasions, I would prefer something more elegant.

Like I said, I have tried many types of blotting paper and this one by far helps me the most.   Even with all products I use to help keep my sebum in control, there is only one thing that really helps and that’s to use blotting paper.

*The picture above was taken from the Sephora website.  My container and blotting pad are not in great shape and so I ordered a new one from their site.

BeautiFriday: Mamonde Wannabe Cushion Tint

Written by Ji | 19 May 2017

BeautiFriday: Mamonde Wannabe Cushion Tint

On today’s BeautiFriday adventure, I tried out Mamonde Wannabe Cushion Tint in the color Fillmore.  I loved the last Mamonde product I tried, so I had high expectations for this cushion tint.  The packaging was simple.  Just plastic, wrapped around the product.  I do appreciate how a product is packaged, so I was a tiny bit disappointed.  Not to mention, I felt like Mamonde was a little confused on how to present this Cushion Tint.  It felt like they had the “mullet idea”.  Business in the front and party in the back.  I just don’t find using those two fonts aesthetically pleasing.  But those are simply personal issues and has nothing to do with what kind of product this is.  After all, you can never judge a book by its cover.

While I felt it lacked in the packaging department, this Cushion Tint had a nice bold color with a creamy consistency.  When I first applied the product, it glided smoothly and had a nice rich color.  This is a nicely scented fruity product that does not feel too heavily perfumed.  My favorite thing about this product is the lip applicator.  During the day, I blended out my lips, to make the color less dark and perfect for spring.  At night, I reapplied for a nice bold mauve pink color.  I really appreciate any products that are 2 in 1.  I carry a lot of makeup in my kit, and if one product can do 2 colors.  I am one happy lady.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would.  This affordable price lip product has a high quality feel.  With the lip applicator on the bottom, you are able to wear this cushion tint during the day, and bold it out for the night.  If Momonde could make the packaging sleeker or just remove that pattern on the bottom, I would be one happy camper.

BeautiFriday: Mamonde Creamy Tint Color Balm Intense

Written by Ji | 05 May 2017

beautiFRIDAY: Mamonde Creamy Tint Color Balm Intense

With the nice summer temperatures coming in, I decided to buy a couple of Mamonde lip products to go with the fun and sunny weather.  For today’s BeautiFriday adventure, I tried out my first Mamonde product, the Creamy Tint Color Balm Intense in Velvet Red.  When I swatched the color at the store, I noticed it wasn’t a “velvet red” I am accustomed with.  It wasn’t a deep red, but more of mauve reddish color.

The next day, I did my normal beauty routine and prepped my lips to try my new lip product.  After opening the product, I gave the product a quick sniff and noticed there was no scent to this lip tint balm.  I applied the product as a liner first, then proceeded to fill in the rest of my lips.  Mamonde Creamy Tint Color Balm glided smoothly across my lips, and I was impressed with the color and texture of the product.  I still wouldn’t call this a “Velvet Red” color, unless they were referring to the texture than I would agree.  It does have a nice velvet feel.  The lip product is matte but not drying.  Since I do have darker lips, the swatch on my arm versus my lip is completely different.  It has a nice medium red color with hints of pink in the sunlight.  While I was doing errands, I took another selfie, and noticed the color looked more deep red with their lighting.  By the end of the day, there was hints of orange.  So depending on lighting, this lip product could be different shades.

What I liked most about this tint balm was how nicely the product faded.  For the purpose of the article, I didn’t’ touch up my lips, just to see how resistant this product was.  This product does transfer while eating or drinking and the color does fade.  But it fades nicely and still looked like I had a softer color lip tint on.  When you’re busy and on the go, it’s hard to touch up your face, so this lip tint balm gets an extra point.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would!  Mamonde Creamy Tint Color Balm Intense had a nice velvety texture that helps the product glide smoothly on your lips.  The product leaves yours lips matte but the balm keeps the product from drying out your lips.  The color stayed on my lips for a few hours without the fading.  But even when it did fade, it faded beautifully into a lighter red pinkish color.  I am officially a fan of this product.
