Take flight with GOT7 in LA
A Review by Penny Everett
Perhaps one of the most diverse groups in the k-pop industry is none other than GOT7. GOT7 is a seven member k-pop group that formed in 2014 under the company JYP Entertainment. Members include JB (Leader), Mark, Jackson, Bambam, Youngjae, Junior, and Yugyeom. With members originating from the United States, Korea, Thailand, and Hong Kong, this group sure knows how to make an impact around the world. With their recent successful album Flightlog:Departure and their recent smash hit “Fly” the boys sure did fly their way into fans hearts. Recently the seven-member group successfully completed their first tour “Fly in USA” with locations including: Dallas, Chicago, New York (two shows), Atlanta and finally Los Angeles (two shows). With the company Subkulture entertainment holding the event, it was sure to be a great experience for baby birds in the USA! The following is a personal experience/review of their very last show in the USA, which happens to be L.A. day 2 ~!
Is there any way to express how truly spectacular the show was in words? I don’t think so, but I will try my best! Being a huge IGOT7 myself, the boys could be standing there doing nothing on stage and I would be perfectly happy. However, my true and honest review about the concert (setting aside my bias towards got7) was that it was nothing short of truly SPECTACULAR and AMAZING! Even if you are not a huge fan of GOT7, the concert itself is sure to make you take flight. The seven boys sure did make it known how much they deeply care about us, and how grateful they are for all of the support we give. The concert started out with a short video intro that started off the concert with a kick! The boys started out with showing off their incredible dance moves and ending with mark doing a flip in the air that had every fan in the room screaming. Soon after, the lights dimed and highlighted GOT7 in their black outfits with their sparkly silver jackets (can you say Angels?!). GOT7 played smash hits including: “A,” “Girls Girls Girls,” “Confession Song,” and “Just Right.” IGOT7s got a full spectrum of the hard work that GOT7 has invested into the group and their loving fans. The boys even split into groups for special stages. The first group up was JB and Youngjae performing a ballad called “1:31 am” (I cried like a baby, the feels got very real at that moment), Mark and Junior performed after with a party vibe song called “Higher,” and lastly Bambam, Jackson, and Yugyeom performing a dark hip-hop type of song “We Only Live Once”.
The vocals were definitely something to rave about. The boys sounded exactly the same, if not better than they do on their album. Their singing was steady and smooth as they did complicated moves and flips to the beat of the music. Seems impossible? Not for GOT7! The boys were not in short supply with the amount of fan service they gave to their US fans. The concert was filled with fan interaction, aeygo, and a lot of hip thrusts and sexy dance moves!
Another particularly memorable moment was when JB rolled across Junior’s back during their breakdown dance during the JJP hit song “Bounce.” With JB suffering a severe back injury, JB had to take things slow and tone down a lot of his dance moves to ensure that he doesn’t get reinjured. It wasn’t until the very last show in LA that JB did the famous JJP dance move! Some other memorable moments include Grandma Tuan dancing on screen while Mark was heard laughing backstage. Papa and Mama Tuan also made a special appearance in the crowd to support the boys. To end the concert, they sang and danced to a remix of “fly” while confetti flew through the air. It was then that I realized that it was an experience no one in the room will forget.
