Snack Sunday: Haitai Cream Wafer

Snack Sunday: Haitai Cream Wafer

Last night, I started to feel ill and hoped that after 8 hours of sleep, some vitamin C, and a whole lot of water, would keep me from getting any worse.  Sadly, my attempts were futile.  I woke up with a sore throat, strong headache and a desire to stay in bed.  But before I take the day off and sleep the day away, I needed to eat something first before I take medicine.  When I’m sick, I normally don’t like to eat anything.  The thought of food makes me queasy.  I always have crackers in my pantry for this occasion, but for some unknown reason, they were not there.  I will figure out that mystery when I feel better but as for now Haitai Cream Wafer is the closest snack I have to crackers.

When I opened the package, I became amused.  It was wrapped again in a material similar to cookie sheets.  When I tore the strip off, I noticed that the wafers were divided into 2 sections.  A perfect snack to share for 2 people.

Snack Sunday: Haitai Cream WaferThe wafer had a nice vanilla scent, with a hint of something fruity.  When I took a bite, I instantly knew what that fruit was.  It was banana.  But there was something else too, something zestier.  When I first took a bite, I thought my senses were betraying me.  But when I looked at the ingredients, it confirmed.  It was vanilla, cream, lemon and banana.  I have to say, this was a nice surprising combination.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would.  If there are any banana lovers out there, I would recommend this treat.  Haitai Cream Wafer has a strong banana taste with hints of vanilla cream and lemon. It’s surrounded by a nice layer of wafer, that had a nice fresh taste (maybe due to the cookie sheet wrapping).  If I could find this, in hazelnut or in chocolate, I would gladly buy a good chuck of it.

Snack Sunday: Lotte Binch

Keys. Check!  Wallet.  Check!  Phone.  Check!  An awesome snack to help me get through Black Friday, check!  When trying to hustle to get those Black Friday deals, you need to stay hydrated and snack when you can.  Especially when you have a long Holiday list.

On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Lotte Binch.   I have never tried this snack before, but I choose it because I needed something that went well with coffee.  Biscuits and coffee (or tea) is always a great combination.  I was impressed by Lotte’s packaging.  The box was sturdy and stayed closed in my bag while I was speed walking from store to store.  They also packaged each biscuit individually.

Snack Sunday: Lotte Binch

Which is perfect for those on the go. I can just snack on one, and not have to worry about crumbs getting everywhere.  But the best part of the snack was the rich chocolate flavor on the crunchy yet airy biscuit.  I love chocolate biscuits, and this was lovely treat.  I had to stop for a moment and open another bag.  Which is rare for me when I’m shopping.

Would I buy this again?

Yes!  After a long morning of shopping, I actually went back to my local store and picked up a couple more boxes for my home.  Lotte Binch is a yummy bite size chocolate biscuit that I highly recommend to anyone.  I could eat this individually or I can open all the wrappers and place them on a nice plate to serve to my guests.

Snack Sunday: LOTTE Pepero Choco Cookie

Snack Sunday: LOTTE Pepero Choco Cookie

It’s that time of year again, where you gift Pepero to your friends and love ones.  Pepero Day (November 11) is similar to Valentines Days, where in South Korea they exchange these delicious snacks to show their affection to the people they care for.  This year, I decided to try out Lotte Pepero in Choco Cookie flavor.

I bought this box because it “looked” fancier than the other box, and I thought since it’s a special day, I might as well get the fancier looking box.  I already had an idea what Pepero sticks taste like, as it’s one of my favorite snacks.  Although I really try to limit myself because they are addicting.  Pepero Choco Cookie is a stick biscuit covered in chocolate and has bits of chocolate cookie added on top.  I love this combination.  This snack has a nice crunchy texture from the chocolate cookie, which also makes this type of Pepero sweeter than the other flavors.  I probably ate about half the bag before the snack became overly sweet to me.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would.   This would be the perfect snack to share with your friends and love ones to express how much you care for them.  It’s sweet, tasty, and affordable.  Perfect for anyone on any budget.

Snack Sunday: ROYCE Nama Chocolate

On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Royce Chocolate.   I know Royce Chocolate is a product of Japan, but I had to try out this chocolate because I am re-watching the drama “Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon”.   Here are a couple of pictures of the cute couple “shopping” for Royce Chocolate.  For those who have not seen the drama, I recommend you do so.  There are also no spoilers in this article.  I just wanted to share with you an adorable scene from the drama.

Snack Sunday: ROYCE Nama ChocolateSnack Sunday: ROYCE Nama ChocolateThis chocolate is rich and velvety.  It has a nice powdered cocoa layer on top, but the inside had a nice smooth and creamy consistency.  I love the texture and taste of this product.  It’s a perfect snack to enjoy with either wine, coffee or tea.  I also wanted to add how much I loved the packaging.  Since it’s still hot here, they put my chocolate in a cooling bag with a frozen gel packet.  It kept my chocolate from melting on this blistering fall day.  And lastly, I love the little utensil it came with.  My hands stayed clean while I indulged in the delectable treat.

Would I buy this again?

Yes!  I would love to buy this product again but for $18 a box, it will have to be for special moments.  Like celebrating the weekend or maybe pay day.   I would recommend this chocolate to anyone since it’s not overwhelming sweet but sweet enough for those who have a sweet tooth.  It’s the perfect medium for any chocolate lover.

Snack Sunday: Paldo Aloe Mango

Snack Sunday: Paldo Aloe Mango

Written by Ji | 22 October 2017

On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Paldo Aloe Mango.  It’s another busy weekend, filled with family events and a couple of social events.  Food will be provided at all events, so I just needed a refreshing drink to quench my thirst from one event to the next.  The weather has been in the 80s recently and I remembered that during the summer I tried an Aloe drink that hit the spot during the scorching summer weather.  But I also remembered it had a weird aftertaste, so when I went to my local market, I picked up a drink that was similar to Haioreum Aloe Vera Mango.  (Click the link to check out my review HERE ).

I did a quick glance at the plastic container to see if there would be any pulp/aloe vera bits in the drink.  After a quick shake, I could see that this product is loaded with pulp.  I twisted off the cap, and smelt the sweet smell of mango.  It’s a pretty sweet smell for a drink, but I love the scent.  Paldo Aloe Mango is a sweet refreshing drink that definitely hits the spot.  It does have a similar aftertaste, similar to Haioreum Aloe Vera Mango, but it was lighter.  It’s also less sweet.  But when I say less sweet, it doesn’t mean this drink is not filled with sugar.  If you are sensitive to overly sweet drinks, this might not be for you.  One serving is enough.  Otherwise you will start to feel that sweetness.

Would I buy this again?

Yes.  I don’t think I could drink this everyday (because of the sweetness), but on occasion, I would.  This drink is sweet, refreshing and perfect for a warm day.

Snack Sunday: Lotte Milkis Original

Snack Sunday: Lotte Milkis Original

Snack Sunday: Lotte Milkis Original

On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Lotte Milkis.  I have seen these drinks at every Asian store in my neighborhood.  But for some reason, it just never called to me.  It’s over 80 degrees here and I felt the need for a nice cool refreshing drink.  I didn’t have much time to check out the refrigerated drink section, so I just randomly picked up a drink and headed to my class.

I was absolutely shocked by this drink.  You would think I would have known this was a creamy carbonated beverage (judging by the name and picture on the can) but when opened the beverage and took a sip, I was in shock.  I felt like I was drinking one of those yogurt drinks.  Which isn’t bad and it was refreshing but boy was I surprised.  It had that same sour aftertaste but the consistency of this drink was smoother.  After I finished the can, I did feel like the drink was sweeter than the yogurt.  But I only felt that way after I finished the creamy drink.

Would I buy this again?

Unsure.  While the taste is similar to the yogurt drink, it does have a smoother consistency.   I think I will go back and try the other flavors that they offer to see if I will change my mind.  After all, this drink is pretty popular.  Maybe original is just not my flavor.

Snack Sunday: HMART Rice Cake

Snack Sunday: HMART Rice Cake

On this week’s Snack Sunday adventure, I wanted to do a special snack for Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving).  Since I’ve been sick with the flu for the past few days, I was not able to cook anything.  So, I sent my sister to the store to find me Songpyeon (rice cake steamed in pine needles).  Of course, I wasn’t expecting much since it was a last-minute trip but I had high hopes she would come back with some sort of rice cake (and not spicy rice cake).  When she came back, she tossed a bag at me while she happily walked away eating tteokbokki.  I had a feeling she would come home with that snack.

As I opened the bag, I was pleasantly surprised to see that she succeeded and found fresh rice cakes.  I am very fortunate that my store sells a variety of fresh products and for my sister for running this errand for me.  However, there was no brand on the carton, but I looked up HMart and this was the picture they had on their website.  I would have taken one from my phone, but with this fever, I don’t think I could a focused picture.

I randomly took one of the rice cakes and took a bite.  It had the familiar taste and texture of all rice cakes.  It was soft, chewy and tasted a little nutty.  The bean flavor was strong, but that was to be expected.  For a store-bought item, I was impressed.  It had that homemade feel and traditional taste.

Would I buy this again?

Yes.  I would love to buy this again when I feel better.  My taste buds are a bit iffy from being sick, but if I could taste the flavor of the rice cake while being sick.  This is definitely something I would like to try again.

Snack Sunday: CW Big Shrimp Snack

Snack Sunday: CW Big Shrimp Snack

On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out CW Big Shrimp Snack.  I know, I know, another shrimp snack but honestly, I can’t help it.  Trying all crunchy shrimp chips is my ultimate goal.  I don’t know why, but I love the flavor and texture of “most” shrimp chips.  And since I am going on a road trip, I wanted to bring a shrimp snack.

This snack is different from the other chips I have tried.  The shape, the texture and the thickness is different.  When you open the bag, it has a strong seafood scent.  I’m warning you now, don’t smell the inside.  The texture is crunchy and thick.  It has that nice crunch I love so much but the flavor wasn’t as strong as I thought it would be.  But you get the full taste of the chip a few seconds later (aftertaste).

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would.  Was there a shrimp chip I didn’t like?  I do like this.  It’s different from the rest.  CW Big Shrimp Snack has a nice flavor and thick crunchy texture.

I have been busy and making lunch or dinner has been difficult.  Luckily Bibigo has a variety of products to choose from.  On today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Bibigo Korean Style Fire-Grilled Beef.
I know this isn’t a snack, but I didn’t have time this weekend, so I quickly made lunch by microwaving the beef and added it to a roll.  This is one of my favorite to go foods.  The beef has a nice savory rich flavor, especially for a microwave meal.  It’s tender and flavorful.  Perfect for anyone on the go.
Would I buy this again?
Yes! I keep this product in stock in my home.  It’s so easy to make and absolutely delicious.

Snack Sunday: Annie Chun’s Seaweed Crisps Gochujang flavored

Snack Sunday: Annie Chun’s Seaweed Crisps Gochujang flavored

Today is the perfect day for a picnic.  Since the weather is cooler, I decided to take some time “me” time and enjoy a quick getaway at my local park.  It’s one of the best places to enjoy some peace and quiet with a gorgeous view of nature.  For today’s Snack Sunday adventure, I tried out Annie Chun’s Seaweed Crisps Gochujang flavored.  I thought a nice sweet and spicy snack with my pumpkin spice latte would be perfect snack for this fall type weather.

When I got to the park, I found a nice big tree, laid out my blanket, sat down and opened my snack.  Normally, I would read a few chapters of a book first, but I didn’t want my hot drink to get too cool.  What I love most about seaweed crisps is the nice crunchy crisp bite and this snack did not disappoint me.  From the start, it had the texture and crunch that is associated with seaweed crisps.  The gochujang flavor is on point.  The snack starts off sweet but you can feel a bit of heat after a few seconds.  I don’t think this snack is too spicy, but I have a high tolerance.  So, if you can’t handle the heat, I would stay away from this snack.  But I would recommend this snack even if you had a low tolerance.  Only because it has a nice bold and sweet flavored.

Would I buy this again?

Yes, I would.  I love seaweed crisp and I don’t think there’s a flavor I don’t like.  It’s a great low-calorie snack with a crisp texture with sweet and spicy flavor.  It’s everything I love.  Now, if they made this bag resealable or maybe a bit smaller.  This would be one of my go to snacks.
